We Specialize in Older Homes!

Early twentieth century homes are plentiful in the Seattle area. The Mirsky Team has expansive experience working with these older electrical systems and has mastered the skill required to fish wires through lathe and plaster walls. We will methodically work through your home to minimize damage and visibility of our work and renovations on the job, leaving your home feeling safe and undisturbed.

Knob & Tube Rewiring or Replacement

If you’re the owner of one of these older homes, you most likely still have Knob & Tube or “Open” wiring throughout your home. This system consists of two wires, live and neutral (no ground), with insulator knobs for isolation and ceramic tubes to line holes through wooden studs. Although it is outdated, this form of wiring can still be safe and functional. However, with today’s technological advances and electrical usage it is recommended to most homeowners considering renovations to rewire their home for a grounded electrical system with dedicated circuits.
Knob & Tube Facts:

  • This system is only rated for 15Amps, it should be protected by a 15Amp fuse or circuit breaker.Devices rated for more than 15Amps cannot be used with Knob & Tube wiring.
  • If 3-pin devices are to be used on a Knob & Tube outlet, it is recommended that a G.F.I. be installed.

Circuit Breaker & Panel Repairs

Is your electrical panel box old and outdated? Do your lights dim when you plug in a large appliance such as a vacuum cleaner? Does your electrical panel make a crackling sound? Is the panel manufactured by Zinsco or Federal Pacific?
If you have answered yes to any of these questions, this may be a warning sign that your electrical panel or your fuse box needs to be replaced. We install electrical panels made by the finest manufacturers, including Square-D and Cutler Hammer. We guarantee that all materials used will be as specified, and up to code. All electrical panel changes and upgrades are done strictly by permit.
